Despite billions of dollars of investment, surveys show that more than 90% of companies are dissatisfied with their innovation performance. Why so little impact? One big obstacle is organizational inertia: the day-to-day routines and rituals inside organizations–from meeting etiquette to how employees spend their time–that can stifle original thinking.

The good news is that it’s possible to hack business-as-usual habits – through interventions called BEANs. BEANs are behavior enablers, artifacts, and nudges. Like most hacks, these interventions aren’t expensive, but they do take time and energy.
